Reiki
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a technique that was developed in Japan in the early 1900s. The name comes from two Japanese words, ‘Rei’ which means spiritual wisdom, and ‘Ki’ which means life energy.
Reiki is an energy-based therapy, used for stress reduction and relaxation. The basic technique is quite different from massage in that it does not involve kneading muscles or moving along the skin. Instead, a series of holding positions are used on various parts of the body. Working as a support mechanism to the body, Reiki re-establishes a normal energy flow of ‘Ki’ (life force energy) throughout the system.
During a treatment, you may feel cold, a pulsating heat, or a tingling sensation, and you will probably enter a calm, relaxed state. However, a treatment is experienced differently by each person.
Reiki treatments at Hands on Health Massage Therapy are combined with massage therapy treatments. In this way you will be able to get the benefits of a regular massage combined with the soothing energy of Reiki.
Please note: As we are Registered Massage Therapists, we do not do Reiki treatments alone (ie - without massage). If you are looking for a Reiki-only treatment, we can recommend several good practitioners in the city.
