Foot Reflexology
Reflexology is a relaxing therapy of the feet whereby the therapist stimulates pressure points that correspond to the parts, organs and glands of the body. By stimulating these pressure points, blockages are gradually removed and a better flow of energy becomes available to these areas of the body. This increased flow of energy promotes optimal functioning of each of the different body systems.
In one session, reflexology may lower blood sugar levels, reduce pain, increase function of organs, reduce stress and anxiety, give the recipient an overall sense of well being which may reduce symptoms of depression, as well as a multitude of other benefits. By stimulating these pressure points the body naturally enters into a state called "homeostasis", which is the body's own natural state of healing, repair and balance.
During a reflexology session, the you may wish to focus on a specific health concern and/or system of the body, or may just want to relax and enjoy the soothing effects this foot treatment has on the body as a whole.
Aromatherapy oils may be used during the session to aid the relaxation process or regular oil can be used as a substitute for those with allergies or scent sensitivities.
"Several studies funded by the National Cancer Institute and the National Institutes of Health indicate that reflexology may reduce pain and psychological symptoms, such as anxiety and depression, and enhance relaxation and sleep. Studies also show that reflexology may have benefits in palliative care of people with cancer." Mayo Clinic Brent A. Bauer MD
